Photography Trains - A Journey Through the Seasons

Dates:

Sunday 14th April 2024

Sunday 14th July 2024

Sunday 10th November 2024

Time: 10am - 2pm

Departing Station: Stanhope

All aboard... for a very unique and unusual experience on the Weardale Railway!

Fancy the opportunity to photograph some unique and scenic locations on Weardale Railway? Come along and enjoy a masterclass from a photography expert behind the lens.

Arrive at Stanhope Station for a meet, greet and safety briefing before boarding one of our diesel multiple unit trains with windows that offer unparalleled panoramic views of the dale. Departing Stanhope we head for arguably one of the best vistas on the railway. The experience lasts approximately four hours, with a number of opportunities to shoot the amazing natural beauty and industrial heritage along the Weardale Railway.

The experience allows you to alight the train at six strategic points on the route to allow you to safely take photographs and visit areas not normally accessible such as Etherley Viaduct. Whether you're a budding or experienced photographer this is a must for you!

Any type of camera is appropriate. It's not the camera that makes a good picture, it's the person holding it!

The workshop will cover the basics of subject choice, good lighting and composition. The more technical aspects will be tailored to those that need or want them, so if you want to move away from using the automatic settings our expert will assist you with this. If you want to create nice photos on your phone, the basic elements are just as important.

Tickets cost £40 per adult and £30 per child (£20 for a wheelchair position or free if you have a carers card). To book tickets please visit https://weardale-railway.digitickets.co.uk/tickets (or via the 'Book Tickets' button). Alternatively for more information please send an e-mail to weardalerailway@aucklandproject.org. Places on these trains are very limited.

Please note the experience requires a reasonable level of fitness as you will be climbing on and off the train at most locations. If you are unable to do this we will arrange to move the train to allow you to take your photographs.
