Have you ever wanted to be a Train Driver?
Here's your opportunity to do just that! Come along and drive (under instruction) our Sentinel Locomotive. Our Sentinel came from Daw Mill in 1993. It is powered by a Rolls Royce 8 cylinder supercharged engine, has 325 brake horse power and is capable of hauling 1500 tonne. If you like power this locomotive ticks the boxes.
The experience begins at Stanhope Station (DL13 2YS) where you will meet the team, have a safety brief and a learn a little more about the Sentinel.
You and the Driver will then be provided with your movement authority and staff and then our Driver will take you through the controls and undertake a short test run just to get the feel of the engine. When we are happy you will set off down to one of the most scenic views for approximately 3 miles down the track.
When we are ready to return you will be given the necessary instruction from the Controller and you will drive back to Stanhope, where there will be time to take some photographs. You will be at the controls for a 6-mile round trip. You'll also receive a commemorative certificate as a memento of your experience.
On our return to Stanhope we will provide a hot drink and snack.
This is a must for anyone who always wanted to be a Train Driver!

The driver experience is priced at £250 and you can bring along a friend (in a non-driving capacity) for an additional £50.
Gift vouchers are also available for our driver experiences, so you can gift someone the experience, or if you're unsure as to which date you want to come along, you can purchase the voucher for that additional flexibility.
