At the moment trains operate between Stanhope, Frosterley, Wolsingham and Witton le Wear. It is planned to extend these services to Bishop Auckland in the near future.


Leave the A1(M) at junction 58 onto the A68 signposted ‘Corbridge’ . Follow the brown signs to ‘Weardale’ and the A689 leading to Wolsingham and Stanhope.


Leave the A1(M) at junction 62 onto the A690 through Durham City and then on to Crook. In Crook join the A689 for Weardale, Wolsingham and Stanhope.


BY BUS (Mondays to Saturdays)

The bus timetable from Bishop Auckland to Wolsingham and Stanhope via Crook can be accessed here. There is an hourly service on Weekdays. Please note there is no Sunday service. There is  also  a connecting bus service from Durham City to Bishop Auckland. 

BY BUS ( Summer Sundays)

In the summer (May to September) there is also a bus service between Crook and Alston, ‘The Roof of England Bus’, which runs through Wolsingham, Frosterley and Stanhope. It operates  on Sundays and Bank Holidays. Details can be found here.
