On Friday 13th, Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th November, Flying Scotsman will haul morning and afternoon return services between Darlington Bank Top and Stanhope Station on the Weardale Railway.

This landmark occasion will mark the world-famous locomotive’s first-ever visit to the Weardale Railway, offering visitors a rare opportunity to see Flying Scotsman journey through the spectacular Durham Dales.

To help everyone enjoy the event safely, access to Weardale Railway platforms will be limited and a platform ticket will be required. Tickets cost just £2. Simply bring your receipt with you on the day and we’ll issue your dated platform ticket at the station. Your ticket will be valid for the session shown on it. Tickets may also be available to pay at our stations on the day subject to availability.

Enjoy a safe, designated viewing area with a great view of Flying Scotsman as it travels along the Weardale Railway. See and hear this legendary steam locomotive up close, take memorable photographs and keep your platform ticket as a souvenir of the occasion.

Our Platforms will be open from 0830 hrs for the first run of the day which departs Darlington at 0840 hrs and will be closed at 1200 hrs. They will then be reopened for the following session at 1300 hrs with the afternoon run departing Darlington at 1340 hrs.
