Work continues on a new 150 metre footpath that will form a much shorter and direct connection between the Network Rail Station and the Weardale Railway's Bishop Auckland West platform. The path will be at ground level with DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) compliant ramps at either end. As part of the work remains of the old Crook and Weardale platform were removed along with vegetation and spoil clearance taking place.
The work is being undertaken by contractors CML on behalf of Network Rail and in collaboration with the Bishop Line Community Rail Partnership (BLCRP) and Weardale Railway Limited.
Work commenced at the end of April and the project is due for completion by the end of June, so the path will be ready for immediate use when services are restored to Bishop Auckland.
