Broken Banks Landslip Repair

Weardale Railway

One mile west of Bishop Auckland station the Weadale Railway is carried on an embankment over a side stream which then flows into the River Wear lying immediately to the north.

This section, known as Broken Banks (the name predates the railway), has for decades been prone to slippage requiring periodic infilling with ballast. During the Covid closure the slippage returned. As part of the infrastructure programme of works Weardale Railways engaged a contractor for the repairs which were completed during the last week of October 2021.
