Gala Weekend 2008
Saturday August 30^th & Sunday August 31^st

Following on from a very successful last few months, the Weardale Railway are happy to announce that a frequent and varied service for the general public will be in operation over the weekend of 30^th and 31^st of August. In addition, there is a unique opportunity for Full Weardale Railway Trust Members to travel over a section of the Weardale Railway which has not seen passenger services since 1994.

Passenger services between Wolsingham & Stanhope will give the GENERAL PUBLIC the opportunity to travel behind the Class 73 electro diesel locomotive hauling our heritage coaches and also the Class 141 Diesel Multiple Unit. Standard fares will apply to this service.

  There is an opportunity for FULL TRUST MEMBERS to travel on a section of line which the railway plans to open in the future. This will enable prospective volunteers to familiarise themselves with the section of track between Wolsingham and Harperley. This special journey will be operated by the recently restored Wickham Trolley, which has limited capacity.

In order to participate in this UNIQUE (and limited) journey to Harperley and return, we request that members make a MINIMUM DONATION of £5.00 per person towards the recent restoration of the Wickham Trolley. Members will also need to produce a current membership card for inspection by the train crew, although new members will be accepted on the day (cash payment required). The first Wickham will depart Wolsingham Station at 9.30am. These services will be operated on a first come first served basis.
